Haley is an energetic, happy, yet shy 3 yr old girl who initially came into the care of SRECC as an owner surrender. She was placed in foster care, and her foster parents fell in love with her instantly! Just after three months, Haley was adopted by her foster parents and joins her forever family in the country with an 8 year old rescued Springer named Jamie, and three rescued cats…Baxter, Mickie, and Lily. Haley's foster parents had to work through some major issues and worked hard to make Haley & Jamie comfortable with each other... they were sure they would never be able to have a second dog with Jamie's insecurities due to his past life.... but have beaten the odds! Haley’s days now consist of running, chasing butterflies, birds, leaves and the cats from time to time. She truly enjoys bringing a ball for her humans to throw and she loves to cuddle with her humans, the cats and Jamie. Haley has found her forever home at last! July 2009. |

MAC! "To start Mac’s story I need to thank the very special people who intervened on his behalf. Life could not have been to pleasant for Mac, as happens for those who are not understood, given the patience that youth requires, or loved for who they are. Although Mac can’t completely understand, I know he would be most grateful to SRECC volunteers and Bonnie Masson who orchestrated his release from a less than favourable environment, and to Mike Joll who spent hours driving him from his original home to meet me as a foster Mom. I admit to a propensity for failing fostering, as evidenced by our family of six delightful Springer Spaniels, all of who are rescues. Thank you Springer Rescue for sending three of them my way. Mac has learned a lot since the beginning of June. His older brother Wellie took an instant liking to him and took him under his wing. Mac learned to run in to his kennel at night because he knew that there was a reward awaiting him. He now sleeps out of his kennel because he has calmed down and sleeps peacefully. I have started Mac’s education with some obedience and agility basics. We are starting formal obedience class after Labour Day. He loves to run – the first time that I let him off the leash it was a joy when he discovered what it felt like to open up and run full speed. He can spend hours chasing swallows around the yard yelping with delight. And he lies on a dog bed beside me on my days working in my home office. We joke that his being inside your skin is not close enough. Mac is absolutely wonderful with our 2 cats, and is a gentleman with visiting “dognitaries”. He loves to learn, and seems to love being part of his new family. Now to get some meat on those bones! Thanks Springer rescue for allowing Mac to come in to our lives." -From Mac's Mom, August 2009. |

TEDDY! Update Nov. 09: We are all very sad to pass along the news that the Tedster made his way to Rainbow Bridge a short time ago. He impacted many lives and was our "poster boy" for the time we had & loved him. He'll be missed by many... "Run free Teddy!" ***************************************************************************** "When Teddy arrived at our door step he was forlorn and forgotten. Somewhere along the way he had been shuffled to the Tweed Animal Shelter, then after 6 long weeks, SRECC heard about his plight and rescued him. After a vet visit, the removal of 10 teeth which had been sadly neglected, a day at the doggy spa, a hair cut and shampoo...Teddy had a new lease on life! Teddy and his new Mom & Dad have all adapted well. He has command of the home and as many treats as he wants. Teddy is loving and affectionate. He loves his walks and going for car rides. He is finally in his forever home where he brings much love!" -From Teddy's Folks, Sept. 2009 |

CHLOE! "My husband Rod first saw Chloe’s picture at Woofstock in Toronto. It was our first trip to this wonderful festival. When we saw her picture we fell in love. Yoda, our other rescue was looking for a new friend to keep him company as he recently lost two of his buddies. My daughter and I picked Chloe up from her foster mom, Patty in Belleville. She instantly had an attraction to my daughter. Chloe had a lot of special challenges to overcome. She has a high pitched cry that can tear your heart out when she sees certain things, like a mop, scissors and a hair brush. The first night I slept on the couch as she was very nervous and paced and howled all night. I fell asleep on the couch and when I woke up she was sleeping by my feet. We have now had Chloe a month a she loves her new life. She loves to go for long walks in the forest, swim in my cousin’s pond, and fetch balls in the backyard. Her favourite activity is riding in the car with her new buddy Yoda. She likes other dogs but is still shy around new people. We are socializing her with lots of people, dogs and the boss of our house, Patchie, our cat. Chloe came into our lives at just the right time. She has brought lots of love and kisses and is extremely happy in her forever home. Bonnie, all the volunteers and foster parents are angels for everything they do to ensure every dog that comes into their lives finds a loving forever home. Thanks again for letting Chloe bring so much happiness into our lives." - From Chloe's Folks, Ann & Rod, Aug 2009. |

MIA & QUINCEY! From Mia's & Quinceys Folks: "We were first introduced to SRECC at a Dog Show we attended back in September. We had just lost our beloved Springer “Bailey” in July and missed her terribly. She was our first introduction to the breed and she made us fall in love with them. We decided we were ready to welcome another Springer into our family and went to the show in hopes of meeting with a breeder. While walking around we came upon the SRECC booth and met Megan. She told us about SRECC, the great work they do and of all the wonderful, deserving dogs that needed good homes. She told us about a female they were in the process of trying to rescue from a puppy mill in Quebec. From that moment on I couldn’t stop thinking about that dog even though I had never met or even seen her. I came home and went on the website to get more information and filled out an application form. On October 17th our six year old baby “Mia” joined our family. What a treasure she is!! She is a beautiful, smart, amazingly well adjusted, loveable, cuddly little dog. She is doing tremendously well and seemed to settle in so quickly. She loves going in the car, walks in the park, plays occasionally with her toys but mostly she likes her treats and cuddling. She is true to her breed and loves the birds!! We were so impressed with Mia and the people at SRECC that when we heard some puppies were up for adoption we thought Mia might like a companion and decided to add an 11 week old baby boy “Quincy” to our family. He arrived on November 14th. Our “little man” is a sweetheart, so loveable and cuddly, smart as a whip (he took no time to train) and loves to play!! He plays with every toy. He is growing like a weed and is up to 34 lbs already. Mia and Quincy are getting along extremely well. Mia plays much more now that he has arrived. She started playing with her toys more (although Quincy usually takes them from her – he hasn’t quite grasped the “share” thing yet). Mia is so great with him, she is very easy going and tolerant. They really enjoy running in the yard together and have indoor wrestling bouts several times a day which we have nicknamed the “UCC” (Ultimate Canine Championship). They are so fun to watch at play and really seem to enjoy each other. The only issue we have is that they are both real “bed hogs” and we can see a King Size bed in our future." Jan. 2010 **SRECC would like to acknowledge that AIR CANADA played a large role in making Quincey's adoption happen so smoothly! Thanks to you AirCanada Cargo for the extension of compassion & generosity!!! |

MILEY! "Miley came into our family just a short time ago and has already made a huge impact on all our lives!! We saw a picture of her and her brother as littermates and instantly fell in love with her. Between Valerie and Megan, they got the ball rolling and we adopted our newest girl. She now spends her days and nights playing with her big sister Belle, (a 5 year old Brittany spaniel), and my two sons Brodie and Colin. When she's done playing she usually crashes on the couch with my husband or in my lap in the lazyboy!! Miley is such a smart little girl and has already mastered "sit", "off" and responds to her name. She likes to counter surf so we are still working on that right now. My husband, Shannon, is looking forward to taking her out and teaching her to hunt with him next fall. Thanks to everyone involved for bringing Miley into our lives....we are so happy to have her as a part of our family! " From Miley's new family- Candice, Shannon, Brodie & Colin (Nov 09) **SRECC would like to acknowledge that AIR CANADA played a large role in making this adoption happen so smoothly! Thanks to you AirCanada Cargo for the extension of compassion & generosity!!!

BEN! "This fall Ben (a.k.a. Gentle Ben) came to stay with us as a permanent foster at 13 years of age . He is a joy to have around! Ben is deaf and is now learning hand signals; he now knows the "come" command and we are working on "sit". Ben's first few days were a bit challenge for all of us as our two other springer's, Darcy & Hannah, had to get used to another springer being around, we had to get used to having a dog with a bit of a disability and Ben had to get used to his new home and everything else that came with it . But it didn't take long for our Ole' Ben to feel very comfortable with his new surroundings- he now voices his opinion when he wants something ( like if he needs outside), he'll bark to let us know it is an emergency that can't wait... like, "gotta go people!" Also, Ben just absolutely loves to play ball and chases after Darcy and Hannah around the yard... he could do this for hours! Now, keep in mind, he is much slower than the other two due to his age but that certainly doesn't stop him from having fun! We are so glad that Ben has come to stay with us, that this is now his forever home. As we said before, and will say agan , Benjamin is such a Joy to have around, he's as cute as a button and has a personality that everyone simply loves." From Ben's Folks, Kim & Alex, Sept 09 |

We're happy to announce that Skeeter's Foster Family have decided to adopt Skeeter themselves! When Skeeter came to us at SRECC he was in rough shape. Skeeter was living out his last few numbered days on death row in a Montreal Animal Control facility when we heard of him and a number of people rallied to save his life and get him to safety in NovaScotia! His fosters & the folks at Westwood Hills Vetrinary Hospital have been working hard to get him back in shape as living alone on the streets in a big city certainly took it's toll on his health. After months of living with Skeeter they found they couldn't bear the thoughts of parting with him and decided to keep him for ever! Nov. 2009 |

" What can I say about Winnie? Well, she is absolutely perfect! Winnie as you can see from her picture is a beautiful 6 yr old lady, who was found as a stray and ended up in a local shelter from which she was released into our care. During her time wandering, she picked up a skin infection from bug bites, which is now completely healed. Honestly, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this girl - she is funny, has a great smile, loves kids, stuffed toys, will happily play ball with you for hours, loves her walks and enjoys car rides. She loves her humans, big and small, and just melts when you cuddle with her and is happiest when she is around you. Winnie is very smart, knows her commands, listens well, has no aggression issues whatsoever, and gets along well with the resident doggie siblings. Winnie, is an absolute gem and you cannot ask for a better more loving companion. " From Sue, Winnie's Mom. Posted: Oct 15th, 2009 |

Maggie is an delightful 11 y/o girl whose owners had to surrender her due to a move. She was used to a quiet life in an adult home where she was pampered and loved. We knew we needed to find Maggie a forever home where she would enjoy the same peaceful life she was used to and we're happy to announce that Miss Maggie has found that with Barb and Albert and their 13y/o Dachsund. Stay tuned for Flint's Happy Tail! |

A call from an Ontario shelter revealed to a SRECC Volunteer that they had a very elderly Springer surrendered to them that could really use some TLC in a real home... shelter living is so hard on animals, especially the seniors! So of course when she went to meet him, it was love at first sight and she took him home as a SRECC foster dog to join her pack. It wasn't long before she was so in love with him, that she knew he wasn't going anywhere! It didn't take long for him to fall into the routines of comfy life with his new family and he learned to use the doggie door in no time flat! Who ever said "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" clearly never tried! Welcome Home Hunter!! |

We are happy to announce that after all the time he invested in helping Mandy overcome her issues & much thought, Mandy's foster Dad decided to adopt her himself! From Mandy's Foster Dad- "When I first got Mandy she was full of fear. She was afraid of being touched, whether it be for a simple pat on the back or for a shake of her paw. She was rather violent in her outbursts, and overly protective of her food. She was fearful of other dogs and always tried to run away from them. The only positive things about her, was that she insisted on playing fetch and that she immediately bonded with my 7 year old son. But that was all months ago! Now, after a lot of patience and understanding, she has finally learned that hands are not something to be feared, and she now reaches out to me with her paws for affection. She loves to be rubbed down with a towel after being out in the elements and is much happier with handling in general! She has even learned to get along in a pack like setting with up to 8 other dogs at the kennel when I was on a recent vacation and did very well there. Mandy would make a perfect lap dog, if given the chance; though getting her off of you can sometimes be a chore, as she leans on your legs while you're sitting down watching TV. If she's not leaning on you, she's usually lying on your feet. There are still times that after being woken up from a sound sleep she will get startled and threaten to protect herself, but it's over in a matter of seconds when she realizes there is no potential harm. I'm sure it has to do with memories of her previous situation. She loves children and prefers to be handled by women. She is more trusting with women, and warms up to them more quickly, if not right away. Mandy is a very intelligent dog. She is very good at communicating when she needs to go out, needs more water or is hungry. Yes, Mandy has some trust issues that will diminish over time, but it sure is time well worth spending!"
